TWO HISTORICAL LOCATIONS

Exhibition House @ Hauptplatz 23

The Spoerri exhibition house is located in the so-called "Hohenfurt House" from the late 16th or early 17th century, named after the Hohenfurt Abbey, which originally owned the property, that probably served the monastery as an administration building and estate.

A Renaissance central bay with a triangular gable rises above the entrance to the portal, whose portal field is decorated with a relief of a “Mariahilf” votiv picture; a coat of arms cartouche on the bay window shows the year 1767.

The house since served many different purposes - it was home to a pharmacy and a florist, among others, before being used as a residence for decades. For this purpose, the building was extensively renovated by the then owner.

After Daniel Spoerri acquired the house in 2008, he had the former living quarters adapted for the purposes of an exhibition space – and a small apartment set up for himself as a “pied-à-terre” above the side wing.

The complex impresses even regular visitors time and again with the quiet and comfort inherent in the main building with its spacious inner courtyard and especially the garden behind the barn.

HALL & LIBRARY @ MAIN SQUARE NO. 16

The second building belonging to the museum at Hauptplatz 16 not only accommodates the »Eatery« on the ground floor, but also an impressive hall and a smaller, more intimate side room, the library, on the first floor. Most of the indoor events of the exhibition center take place here.

Daniel Spoerri's work »Genetische Kette des Flohmarktes« (Genetic Chain of the Flea Market) can be seen as a frieze all around the hall, created from hundreds of flea market objects that the artist has collected over the course of many years.

The library got its name from the approximately 250 volumes of the artist's cookbook collection stored there - from the trivial handbook with suitable recipes for each zodiac sign to a first edition of a book by the royal pastry chef Marie-Antoine Carême.

Both rooms can be rented for events, parties and special occasions - an incomparable setting for any private celebration or corporate event. Please don’t hesitate to contact us concerning details.

OBJECTIVE

The Spoerri exhibition center is dedicated to the well-known and lesser-known aspects of Daniel Spoerri's artistic work. In annually changing exhibitions, key works by the artist are placed in context with works by important artist colleagues - mostly from private collections and often shown for the first time in Austria.

The focus is on those art movements that Daniel Spoerri shaped - such as Eat Art; on groups and movements to which he is associated - such as Fluxus; and in particular on the work of those artists with whom Daniel Spoerri worked, has been close friends with and engaged in a creative dialogue over a long artistic life, including Jean Tinguely, Eva Aeppli, Roland Topor, François Morellet, ...

Events accompanying the exhibitions, such as banquets, readings, concerts, lectures or vernissages, offer a good and in many ways worthwhile opportunity to experience the exhibition house or the hall in the "second house" as meeting places.

The range of workshops is aimed particularly at school classes, individually tailored to the age or background of the pupils, in order to awaken an interest in art.
