The traditional manual activities of sewing, crocheting, embroidery and knitting have long since established themselves in contemporary art and are no longer disparagingly equated with »arts and crafts«.
Textiles also run like the proverbial golden thread through Daniel Spoerri's life - in his works as well as in his private collection of special fabrics from throughout the world, blankets and towels.
This season's exhibition at Ausstellungshaus Spoerri gives an insight into the astonishing variety of textile art: sewn plants, embroidered interiors, carpet pictures, crochet dishes, cross-stitches on a plastic bag, knitted architecture, sewn writing, yesteryear clothing, idiosyncratic figures and a variety of flags.
